Chess Association of Western Australia

2008 Secondary Schools Inter-School Competition

The old home and away format was dropped in favour of playing all matches on one day. It is becoming just too difficult to continue in the old way. There were a few late withdrawals, due to unfortunate circumstances, but 10 teams turned out to play at Legacy House.

Congratulations to the winning schools: Seton Catholic College and Christ Church Grammar School

A Grade

The A Grade competition started off with two drawn matches and it looked like we might be in for a very close contest but Seton defeated Christ Church 4-0 in round 3 and were not troubled from then on.

Seton Catholic College will now represent WA at the National Schools Championships in Adelaide, and will receive a travel grant from the Chess Association to assist their travel to that event.

B-Grade

The B Grade competition was dominated by the Christ Church team but it was a very close race for second, the result not being known until the last couple of games were finished.

C Grade

The C Grade competition could not have been closer. After two drawn matches, it was decided that a third match would be played, and this was drawn as well. The tie was broken by removing the result on board four, which resulted in a win for Seton.
