The Midland Christian School played host to this event once again – we have been greatly helped by this school over the past few years, and we again thank them for their assistance. In particular, Don Smith has done a lot for WA Chess.

Also, we would like to thank our small army of volunteers who help make these tournaments run smoothly.

The numbers were down a little bit, so we ended up combining the Under 10 and Under 12 divisions, as well as the Under 14 and Under 18 divisions.

Under 10
Sean Vettoor has now won 4 Under-10 tournaments in a row and finished =2nd in this combined event. David Stebbins was also doing very well with 4/5 (2 draws) but lost his last two games to bring him back to the pack a little bit. However, it is worth noting that David played 6 players from the Under-12 group, so his result is still a good one.

1st: Sean Vettoor 5½/7, =2nd: David Stebbins 4 (2nd on countback), David Serra 4 (3rd on countback), Patrick Olofsson 4 (Merit Award), Indira Savory 4 (Merit Award).

Merit Awards: James Harfouche, Matthew Ashworth, Liam Love.

Under 12
Michael Papasergio continues to show improvement, winning his second Under-12 tournament in a row. Kieran Dullabh achieved another solid result, finishing 2nd, defeating the winner and losing just one game to young Sean Vettoor. Varun Mukhedkar also showed nice improvement to finish 3rd.

1st: Michael Papasergio 6/7, 2nd: Kieran Dullabh 5½, 3rd: Varun Mukhedkar 4½.

Merit Awards: Daniel D’Angelo, Tayla Wood, Andrew Savory.

Under 14
Darby Thurtell had an excellent result, achieving a breakthrough win. He played all five of the Under-18 players, winning against Christopher Boni and Dane Pepper and drawing with Chris Doukakis.

1st: Darby Thurtell 4½/7, 2nd: James Brown 4, 3rd: Matthew Wozniuk 3½.

Merit Awards: Matthew Duke.

Under 18
Christopher Doukakis continues his good form, winning his fourth tournament for the year. The critical point was his win against the WA Junior Champion, Christopher Boni, in Round 6.

1st: Christopher Doukakis 6/7, 2nd Christopher Boni 5/7, 3rd Kai Luo 4½.

Merit Awards: Dane Pepper.
