Chess Association of Western Australia

2011 Junior Teams & 2011 Secondary Interschool

Held at Perth Modern School on the 6th of November.

These two events were combined again this year. In 2012, we have scheduled these two events separately on the Calendar. This will give us the chance to try and drum up some interest in the Secondary Schools event next year. We will also be holding both events earlier in the year, if at all possible. This should increase the numbers in 2012. The chaos of 2010 was just a distant memory this year.

The merging of the two events led to a bit of confusion concerning the distribution of prizes.

A-Grade
There were only two teams entered in A Grade, which meant that A and B Grades were combined. Perth Modern School had a couple of withdrawals from their B Grade team, so we found some volunteers (who seemed to rotate a bit) to make up a composite team so that their two players got to play some Chess.

The Independants won narrowly, helped greatly by their 3½-½ victory against Perth Modern School. Various versions of this team have won this event for a number of years.

Perth Modern School also had a good team and won the Secondary Schools A Grade as compensation.

B-Grade
Maccabi White and Huntingdale Adidas Players (don’t ask!) had a very close battle in B Grade with Maccabi White prevailing by just half a point and, again, it was their individual clash that made the difference (Maccabi White winning 3-1).

All Saints College won the Secondary Schools B Grade.

C-Grade
Maccabi Green won C Grade quite easily, despite losing their match to the second placed team, Huntingdale Hopefuls. The Maccabi Young Starters team did very well in finishing third.
