The second round of matches for this competition were held at Poynter Primary School in September. Donna Love was responsible for organising the booking and for most of the work leading up to the event, and also for putting on the sausage sizzles. I would like to thank both Donna, and Poynter Primary School, for a job well done. I was the DOP of the competition but I had a lot of help from school officials, and I thank them.
This time, we had each grade playing on a separate day. This was because we could only get the double room on one day. We had about 200 kids playing over the three days.
A Grade (10 teams)
Trinity College were always near the lead in A Grade, but their lead was never great. Sorrento looked the likely challenger but were nearly overrun by some fast-finishing schools: Poynter, Hillcrest and Swan Christian. As it turned out, Poynter finished second and Sorrento and Hillcrest tied for third.
B Grade (12 teams)
Regent and Coolbinia fought out B Grade. Regent looked to have settled matters when they beat Coolbinia 3-1 in Round 4, but Sorrento were in a fight for third and they had a nice 3-1 win against Regent in the last round. Unfortunately, this was not quite enough for them to snatch third place from West Morley Yellow but it did mean that Regent and Coolbinia tied for first.
C Grade (27 teams)
This grade was the biggest by far. The two Trinity teams, plus Boyare No 1, had a close tussle all day, ending up with just 1 point between them. The deciding factor that saw Trinity Green finish first may have been that they were able to win 3 matches 4-0. The other two finished equal second.
FINALS:
In order to decide the overall winner of each grade, the Term 2 winner plays the Term 3 winner. This results in the following matches:
A Grade: Wesley College – Trinity College
B Grade: Regent College – Coolbinia Primary School
C Grade: Oberthur Primary School – Trinity College (Green)
The B Grade Final has been played, and won by Regent College, who are B Grade Champions.
