Temur Kuybokarov Simul

Group C

On Sunday 13th August a simul was played between Temur Kuybokarov and 23 local chess players. The event was held at the Rhein Donau Centre, Myaree.

Temur is 17 and residing in Perth with his family after arriving from Uzbekistan. He holds the title of IM and is one norm away from achieving the GM title. Current rating is 2468 and he is ranked 51 in the under 18 FIDE world rankings. His highest ranking is 2504 achieved earlier this year. He recently participated in a 4 way tie for first place in the Australian Open with a score of 8.5/11.

The simul lasted for five hours with the final game concluding in a tightly fought draw (a clock being used for the last game). It was a queen with pawns ending. Temur was a pawn up but Andrew had a potentially dangerous passed pawn.

This was the first simul that Temur has participated in with the white pieces and a very good score was achieved of 3 draws and 20 wins. We hope that he recovers quickly from what must have been an exhausting event and may agree to a similar event at some stage in the future.

Thank you to Temur for participating in the event and also the 23 players who tested his skills over the five hours on Sunday afternoon. We wish Temur good fortune towards achieving the GM Title.

Draws: Yita Choong, Andrew Hardegen & Peter deYaak.

Wins: Wolfgang Leonhardt, Lennard Mechlowski, Alan Wolstencroft, Andrey Lugovskoy, Ben Dagza, Eric Pan, Evan Yeung, Matt Pudovskis, David Thai, Adam Bonneville, Brian Overste, Aidan Smith, Brent Geronimo, Harry Geronimo, Jasmine Manolas, Carl Osorio, Michael Yeoh, Oscar Gao, Atsu Tsuru & Richard Reynolds.
